Hi. My name is Amy. I have a four year old niece in a DV situation. Her mom left the guy in July and came to stay with me. Now she went back and I'm so worried and conflicted. I'm hoping that I can learn something. Thank you.

Hey amysans, if you have any suspicion or proof of your niece suffering physically/emotionally from this - you can inform child protective services. But the first step would probably be to ask your sister to contact a DV hotline/shelter hotline and find a counselor/therapist for herself.
If she or your niece are in immediate danger- you can also call police and/or the DV hotline to ask what you can do. If the child is being harmed there is no time to waste and the authorities need to know. You yourself can also call the national and/or local DV hotline in your area and ask a professional on the phone for advice- and for the specific legal situation regarding a minor- your niece- in this. If the partner is the father, it could be a bit trickier, if he is not, then the father (if he is useful and healthy) needs to know immediately what is happening to his child.
Hope that helped! Reach out to the official hotlines and contact shelters- they will be great support and know what to do.
